First TACIT Pilots: Peripatetic Learning tried out in UK

20 Jul 2016

Delegates from the Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust and the University of Exeter Business School and invited guests from Hydro International Ltd & Bott Ltd, participated in a pilot of the practical aspects of the Peripatetic Learning technique on the 19th July 2016.  The weather was fine, the route suitably rewarding and the innovation stories and learning examples vividly presented within areas of archaeological or industrial heritage within Dartmoor National Park, Devon, UK.  Led by Dr Allen Alexander, the content focussed on some of the most recent innovation challenges, but brought to life not by reflecting on sterile case studies or text books but by reflecting on bronze age settlers, mediaeval tin streaming and shallow tin mining, peet and naptha extraction as well as more contemporary examples such as the challenges faced by the UK population of Peregrine Falcons in the 1960 & 70s as well as the recombinant innovation, product-development challenges faced by Paramo Directional Clothing Ltd over the past 30 years.  One delegate suggested they had been “thoroughly inspired by learning examples that will stick in their mind for many years to come” (D. Wynne, Hydro International Ltd)
